ON WINDY DAY AT WRIGLEY, YANKEES BEAT CUBS ON GARDNER'S HOMER
"'I'm just looking for a good pitch,' said Gardner, who fouled off a pair of 1-2 pitches before connecting. 'I know he's got a good fastball. I know he's got a good slider. He threw the slider and left it up, and I was able to get a good barrel on it.'"
The thing is Rondon's pitch was hardly "up" but just barely off the ground. What a fabulous game! Interleague play like this is just the best.

SINGING 'HAPPY 450th BIRTHDAY' TO MONTEVERDI
"[H]e places a vocal overlay, this time occurring at irregular intervals and in shifting, sometimes syncopated rhythms."
What makes this music so great is the use of antiphony. In the cavernous spaces of huge cathedrals, the repetitive musical phrases would echo naturally, reinforcing the musical echoes actually written by Monteverdi. Perhaps the first great composer for the trombone, as well!

MACRON CAMPAIGN SAYS IT WAS HIT BY 'MASSIVE' HACKING ATTACK
Naturally, Ms. Le Pen felt left out.

Naturallly.

WHAT HAS FAILED IN FRANCE
The Times recently hired this new (conservative) columnist, Bret Stephens. You tell me which side of his mouth he's talking out of:
"I don't want to close this column without allowing for the awful chance that Le Pen might win. That would be a moral tragedy for France and a probable disaster for Europe. But it would also be a reminder that chronic economic stagnation inevitably begets nationalist furies."
