XI AND TRUMP DISCUSS RISING KOREAN TENSIONS

" ... [A] prominent Chinese state-run newspaper warned North Korea that it faced a cutoff of vital oil supplies if it dared test a nuclear weapon."

And do I dare congratulate President Trump for successfully threatening Xi? ["Mr. Trump has promised ... that he is willing to take unilateral action against North Korea if necessary ..."]

The next step -- as I see it -- is for Trump to assure Xi that regime change would not mean threatening China. In fact, the opposite should be encouraged -- a united Korea would means billions more in trade for the Chinese -- all accompanied by a promise of no American military bases in the north.

Unfortunately, I doubt either side would embrace this peaceful solution. Donald wants hotels in the North.

TRUMP UNDERCUTS BANNON, PUTTING STRATEGIST'S FUTURE IN DOUBT

"'I think firing Bannon would be a huge mistake for Trump,' said Steve Deace, a conservative commentator from Iowa. 'Hell hath no fury like a Bannon scorned.'"

One more blow-up from Spicey and I'll bet he'll be out.

FACT CHECK: ON WHEN THEY MET, AND THOSE VACANCIES

Six "facts" stated by Trump. The results:

  1. FALSE
  2. FALSE
  3. THIS IS MISLEADING
  4. FALSE
  5. NO EVIDENCE
  6. THIS IS MISLEADING

A21

"In recruiting for the Trump resistance, Stephen Colbert [and Alec Baldwin -LS] may be more successful than a handful of angry Democratic senators. Trump can survive denunciations, but I'm less sure that in the long run he can withstand mockery."

Yikes. Next:

TRUMP TO HEAD INVESTIGATION INTO COSBY

  1. Quit throwing middle infielders over to first base, thinking that "anyone can play first." Weeks did not belong there, and Gardner would be fine if a "regular" first-baseman had been assigned to the position.
  2. I watched this entire game. Jordan Montgomery appears to be ready for the rotation. With Tanaka looking a little shaky, and Sabathia looking -- well -- old, the Yanks could keep their heads above water with more starts like this one.
  3. Aaron Judge.
