LAWMAKERS SEEK HARSHER HATE CRIME PENALTIES

"An Anti-Defamation League annual audit, released last week, showed that anti-Semitic episodes increased by more than one-third last year and jumped 86 percent in the first quarter of 2017 compared with the same period in 2016."

Hey, Jared! Your father-in-law cannot escape his complicity in the above-stated statistics. He is enabling the haters. Don't you care?

DEAL WITH FLORIDA WOULD REVERSE A CRITICAL PART OF OBAMA'S MEDICAID EXPANSION

"Florida is one of 19 states that have not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. In a report last week, the Urban Institute estimated that 730,000 to 900,000 people would gain coverage if it did. Of the 20 million people insured as a result of the Affordable Care Act, more than half have gained coverage through the expansion of Medicaid."

Looking up the term "mean-spirited"

BROOKLYN MUSEUM SEARCHES FOR BALANCE

"Although the Brooklyn Museum's suggested adult admission price is $16, half of its 465,000 annual visitors pay nothing, which Ms. Pasternak called 'a hardship.'"

Here's an idea:

Let the visitor make his or her donation as they are leaving the Museum.

I used to live a few blocks from this amazing place. You don't realize what an incredible experience you've just had until you are ready to leave!

And the gardens! (separate admission) ...

YOUNG AND IDEALISTIC, BUT RESOLUTE

"In Hungary, a group of people in their 20s formed a new political movement that forced the government to abandon its bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. The protesters were fearful the event would provide a fertile ground for corruption."

Fighting corruption is difficult enough in full-fledged democratic countries. These folks have their work cut out for them.

"'People say we are naïve, and I guess we are naïve,' Ms. Farska said. 'But we are learning, and we are not alone.'"

Good luck and God bless ...

AMAZON FINDS A FIT IN APPAREL

"About 35 percent of all apparel orders are returned ..."

Isn't that right, Bekah?

SINGING WITH, NOT THROUGH, THE NOSE

"Filling the giant Metropolitan Opera House with ringing high notes and without microphones is hard. Doing it with a big piece of foam glued to the end of your nose is even tougher -- especially if you don't want your tone to conjure thoughts of clothespins or head colds."

"After trying and failing for years to persuade a major company to mount it for him, he decided to put in on himself in Montpellier, France, with his brothers, in 2003.

'I paid for everything: the set, the costumes, the theater, the singers, the conductor,' he (Roberto Alagna) said. (The performance was preserved on a DVD and can be seen on YouTube.)

Magnificent!
